Central Texas Medical Center offers patients much more than quality health care and advanced medical technology. The Adventist Health System hospital also brings a long tradition of Christian compassion to San Marcos.
“Our mission and values are at the core of everything we do‚” says Gary Jepson‚ president and CEO.
“Whether we are caring for a patient‚ comforting a distraught family member‚ or even interviewing a potential employee‚ our goal is always to serve in the manner of Christ.”
The nonprofit‚ 113-bed‚ acute-care general hospital is staffed by more than 600 employees and 170 active and consulting physicians‚ along with more than 100 community volunteers and interns.
Clay DeStefano‚ director of marketing and public relations‚ says CTMC’s faith-based mission is carried out through a variety of community outreach initiatives. In 2006‚ for example‚ the hospital spent more than $6 million to subsidize the cost of care for patients who could not pay‚ provide community health education programs and support faith-based community initiatives.
“Our size‚ our mission and values‚ and‚ most importantly‚ the commitment of our staff and physicians to our mission and values‚ clearly sets us apart from others‚” DeStefano says.
Another sign of that commitment is CTMC’s recent $1.2 million investment in their facilities. In 2006‚ the Childbirth Center‚ which welcomes more than 1‚200 babies each year‚ underwent a complete renovation. In 2007‚ the hospital expanded its emergency room. A new main lobby and waiting area featuring a visitor-friendly Internet café also debuted in 2007. Other additions include the Institute for Physical Rehabilitation and a newly-expanded MRI area.
