Music Star George Strait Honored by Texas State University

Country music superstar George Strait has often been honored during his singing career‚ but perhaps his most prized award was presented to him in San Marcos in May 2007.
Strait was given an honorary doctoral degree by Texas State University-San Marcos‚ where he graduated in 1979 with a degree in agriculture. He was presented with an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters by university President Denise M. Trauth.
“Doctor Strait? I like the sound of that‚” the singer said after receiving the honorary degree.
During his enrollment at Texas State‚ Strait formed a band called Ace in the Hole that played their first-ever performance in San Marcos. In 1985‚ Strait established an endowment fund for the Freeman Ranch that assists agricultural‚ land and wildlife management.
