About San Marcos

Community Overview

Named one of America's Best Places to Live by Livability.com

San Marcos is notable for its young population due in large part to its central location in a region that features several major universities. The city is an eclectic mix of hip and historic. A 1909 copper-domed courthouse anchors a traditional Texas-style town square, but tucked behind those centuries-old facades are nightclubs, piano bars, restaurants, funky cafes and interesting shops. The San Marcos River winds through 150 acres of parkland and offers canoeing, tubing, fishing and more. With nearly 1,000 acres of city-owned parks and green space, residents have ideal places to bike, jog, and picnic.
